Vichy offers quality of life combined with ease of access. It enjoys a privileged central situation at the hub of a network of motorways connecting it to Paris, Lyon, Montpellier and Bordeaux, and close to an international airport. Yet it still enjoys a setting of peaceful greenery, one of the few towns to offer 140 hectares of parkland and a vast lake for recreation.
Vichy offers a blend of rich and contrasting styles from different periods. The Opera House, the Galerie des Sources, the Chalets from the age of Naooleon III, the Célestins spring and the Hôtel Aletti are just some of the delights of the town’s architectural heritage.
The closeness of the convention centre to the town centre, the hotels, the parks and the sports facilities makes it easy to get around on foot and enjoy the town’s charming setting.
Once simply the queen of spas and then home to well-being treatments, Vichy has moved with the times and, from traditional spa cures to today’s fitness programmes, the town now boasts facilities that are among the most modern in Europe. The Célestins centre and the Dômes thermal establishment, both of them devoted to programmes making use of active spa waters rich in mineral salts and oligo-elements, assist in bodily revitalisation.
Throughout the year, in the unique setting of its Opera House, in front of the convention centre or under the canopy outside the Opera House, Vichy stages numerous classical music, operatic, theatrical, variety and dance performances. In addition to its programme of summer events, Vichy has two casinos, shops open on Sundays and public holidays and the only racecourse in France to hold evening races and 40 meetings a year.
A short walk from the town centre Vichy boasts exceptional sporting facilities in the form of the Centre Omnisports, a 120 hectare sports complex catering for 24 different sporting disciplines, situated by a 100 hectare lake for water sports and rowing activities and close to two 18-hole golf courses. This infrastructure gives the town considerable experience and expertise in providing facilities for top teams and in hosting major sporting competitions of all kinds.
Vichy’s Opera House and Casino, France’s only convention centre housed in a listed historic monument, has undergone extensive work on its auditorium and lounges, restoring them to their original condition and creating additional contemporary facilities. The convention centre, with floor space totalling 18,000 m² and two auditoria seating 1,200 and 496, caters for conferences and assemblies of associations and federations as well as functions organised by major corporations.
